Their analysis of the game here gives a lot of new information about it, and some of it sounds really interesting. Here's some of what they mention:

Strobe light function can be used to power doors, elevators and even miniature exploding robots. That last one sounds really interesting, sort of like a cross between a Bombchu and those mecha mice from Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga.

You can use a strobe attack to see off ghosts and make them explode in a shower of coins if you keep the tension meter high by pulling against them with the Poltergust.

There are end of level rankings/grades like the one at the end of the original.

You might be asked to return to previously visited mansions (sorry guy on here who hoped this wouldn't be the case)

Possibility of multiple vacuum cleaners to choose from, unlockable ones.

Darklight item, brings inanimate objects to life. Reveals scenery hidden by blue orbs of light, aiming reveals the balls and sucking them up rebuilds the object.

Gives example of aiming light at painting of coin to make real money appear.

Second mansion called the Old Clockworks. Clockwork puzzles, have to peer through wall to see combination for the lock.

You do things like strip wallpaper, behead snowmen, carry urns, light a barbecue, go fishing, play ice hockey and other stuff with the Poltergust.

Secret Lab is mansion number 3. Team up with Toad for co-op puzzling/escort mission of sorts. Carry Toad around with the Poltergust...

All in all, it looks like the sequel is definitely looking to be a fantastic game, and this great article really expands on how awesome Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon actually is. You should definitely read it.

Anybody here played the GameCube version?

I never have, but I have always wanted to! Anyway, this version for the 3DS is definitely a must-have! Can't wait to go ghost-hunting over Christmas!
